These are the rules you are to abide by while in our channel:
- No pasting of code. One of our ops, PizzaMilkshake, has created a wonderful pastebin for you to paste your code into so we can look at it. Please use that instead, you will find a link to it on the top of this page. Pasting of code disrupts normal channel traffic and is akin to flooding. While we do not mind pasting 1 line, anymore than that may result in a kick.
- No third party app support. We want to help you with
your code, not someone elses. There are many 3rd party applications
out there, phpMyAdmin, PHPSlash, PHPNuke, Smarty, and the list goes on and
on. We can not possibly get to know them all. As such, we will
only be able to help you with the software that you are developing, and not
helping you install someone elses application.
What are third-party apps?- Absolutely, we will NOT help you configure, install, or troubleshoot an installation of someone else's code. (ie, no help with phpBB, phpNuke, postNuke, etc...)
- Conditionally, we MAY help you utilize existing extensions of the language, whether that be PECL, PEAR, or random third party libraries.
Conditions are that:- You must ask an intelligent question.
- Someone must be willing to help you. You can't demand help (for anything).
- You aren't asking for people to write the code for you (in the channel).
- No repeating. We are all volunteers here. If someone hasn't answered your questions right away, that probably means that they either don't have the time to explain, didn't want to help, or simply didn't know. Asking the question again merely annoys us. If at first you don't succeed in getting help, do not try again. That old adage is dead wrong in this case.
- No Messaging. If we do help you, it will be in channel. Someone else may have a similar question, and by answering you, we answer them. Also, someone else might have another answer to your question that might work better for you. So if UserA's answer doesn't necessarily work for you, UserB might throw in her two cents and could possibly give you the answer you need. Messaging also distracts people from the main channel, so they're stuck just working with you as opposed to helping the channel as a whole. Please don't be selfish.
- No Whining. We might not help you. We might have to kick or ban you for one of the offences listed here. That's the breaks. Life isn't fair, and we aren't necessarily either. Learn to deal with it. Its just IRC for god's sakes.
- The ops are right. Whether or not you agree with us, is your business. This is our channel, and we run it how we see fit. If you don't like it, there's always freenode, efnet, undernet, or the ilk.
